Biography

Marissa Johnson is a founding partner of Minerva Law, LLP. Her practice emphasizes all aspects of family law, including dissolution of marriage, child custody and visitation, temporary and permanent support orders, and complex property division. Marissa regularly assists clients in contested family law proceedings, as well as resolving issues through mediation. She also negotiates, drafts and reviews pre-marital and post-marital agreements, assists clients with post-dissolution modifications of custody and support, and obtaining or defending against domestic violence restraining orders. She was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Marissa received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and History, cum laude, from the University of California, San Diego in 2005. She earned her Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of San Diego School of Law in 2009 where she was inducted into the Order of the Coif. During her time at the University of San Diego, Marissa served as a Judicial Extern for the Honorable Leo S. Papas, worked as a law clerk with the United States Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division, and assisted pro bono clients at the San Diego domestic violence restraining order clinic.

Marissa served on The Junior League of San Diego’s Board of Directors from 2016-2018. As a member of the Lawyer’s Club of San Diego, Marissa previously served on the Women’s Resource Fair Task Force. Ms. Johnson received a “Volunteer of Excellence” award from Children’s Hospital for her work with the “Kid’s in Court” program. She is admitted to the State Bar of California. Marissa is a member of the San Diego County Bar Association and the San Diego Family Law Bar Association.

Fun Facts

Marissa’s nickname among her neighborhood friends and family is “Magical Marissa” for making silly dreams come true including creating an annual pinata day, popsicle day and 24 days of Christmas countdown.

Marissa is a third generation San Diegan. Her parents and grandparents all attended local public schools including San Diego High School, Hoover, and Crawford.

Marissa fulfills her childhood dream of teaching by volunteering each week at her children’s school helping with sight words and reading groups.
